SJA Student Honored for Right to Life Artwork

St. Joan of Arc Catholic School had reason to celebrate this week as one of their own students, Sophia Brechbill, took home third place honors in the statewide Right to Life artwork contest for her age group.

The annual competition, sponsored by the Missouri Right to Life organization, encourages students to create artwork uplifting the sanctity of human life. Brechbill's striking depiction of the nativity scene rendered in colored pencil caught the judges' eyes.

"It was a nice illustration of the nativity and of course, the most important knitting that has taken place, that of Jesus Christ," remarked one judge. "There is a nice use of form to create three-dimensional space and careful attention to detail."

For her achievement, Sophia was awarded a $50 prize at a special banquet recognizing the top entries across all age levels.

"We're so proud of Sophia's talents and her willingness to use them to promote a noble cause," said Mr. Dan Mitchell, principal of St. Joan of Arc School. "She is an outstanding example of living our faith."

Sophia's work will be on display at the Stark County Fair.
