Music plays a critical role in a Catholic school. We offer instrumental band and choir programs that meet a variety of skill levels and that cover a wide range of genres. As a faith-based school, music is also woven into our worship services.
Most of our elementary Catholic schools offer instrumental bands in grades 4-8. Semi-private lessons are offered weekly during the school day and are designed for beginner, intermediate, and advanced musician.
High School Band
Our high schools offer opportunities for an instrumental band, offering marching band as well as a performance band.
Student talent is showcased during performances held throughout the school year. Accomplished student musicians in our elementary schools have been invited to play in the Central Catholic and St. Thomas Aquinas High School marching bands, ensembles and high school drama performances. Many of our musicians have been selected to play in the Canton Youth Symphony Orchestra and other community orchestras. Students also have opportunities to play in school and parish music ministries.
Elementary Bell Choir
Some of our elementary schools offer bell choirs for students in grades 4-8. There is a weekly practice as well as public performances. Through bell choir, students are offered opportunities to perform for school assemblies, at School Mass, and for the larger parish community at weekend Masses.
Elementary Show Choir
Each year, students from our elementary school are welcomed to join the Holy Cross Catholic Schools Show Choir. In addition, students from our local Catholic parishes in grades 4-8 can join. Students are immersed in the world of performance while they learn the fundamentals of singing and dancing. After their weekly practices, the group performs for friends, family, and staff members!
Elementary Children’s Choir
Many of our elementary schools offer choir for students in grades 4-8. Students are invited to perform for school activities, Mass, and share their talents at public performances during the school year.
High School Choir
Music performance extends into our high schools. Each of them offers a choir class that allows students to enjoy their craft each school day, as well as during public performances throughout the year. The two high schools come together multiple times a year to perform concerts and to sing as a service at nonprofit organizations around Stark County.
High School Liturgical Music Group
Central Catholic and St. Thomas Aquinas also offer an additional choir opportunity for students who want to use their talents in worship. Liturgical music groups sing during Mass and other prayer services.
